Mission
The mission of the Rochester Chapter of the Coalition of Black trade Unionists is to prepare ourselves for leadership positions within the labor movement and our communities to increase participation in all levels of political activity in order to create a more just society.
History Synopsis
With the CBTU National goals in mind, in August 1999, Randy White decided it was time for Rochester to establish its own CBTU chapter. He called on many local union leaders and staff to work toward this objective. In May 2000, Rochester was awarded its charter as a chapter of the CBTU at the National CBTU Convention.
The Rochester Chapter of CBTU plans to elaborate on these goals by implementing the following: Increase membership and encourage member participation.
Chapter Activities & Volunteer Opportunities
Chapter members are asked to assist their unions and community in a variety of ways. As a member you will contribute by:
Volunteer Training & Personal Leadership Development
To prepare you for CBTU volunteer activities, hands-on training and educational workshops are provided. Technical training is offered to members in relevant areas, such as union activism, union politics, effective communication and organizing. Additional opportunities in organizational management and effective leadership skill training are available as you progress through the CBTU organization.
