Memorial Dedication

On a cold, dark day in April, a ceremony was held at the Monroe Developmental Center of the Finger Lakes DDSO.  More than 150 facility residents and staff, many of them CSEA members, were joined by CSEA President Danny Donohue, OMRDD Commissioner Thomas Maul, and other union leaders in a solemn, bagpipe-led procession to honor the memory of those lost or injured on the job.  "This ceremony is also to honor you, for the heroic work you do every day," said Donohue to the facility CSEA members who care for the developmentally disabled throughout 10 counties. "Your efforts are part of what helps make our State work force the best it can be, and we won't quit seeking safety improvements for you, because you deserve it."

  Workers Memorial Day

On April 26, 2010 the Fingerlakes DDSO held their annual Workers Memorial Day event at the Geneva Day Treatment site.  It was a rainy brash, but the turnout was very nice.  Labor and management both were there, as well as family members of those staff, who gave the ultimate sacrifice during their work duties.  A commemorative tree was planted in honor of our fallen members and it was well received by all the participants, as a noble gesture.

Afterwards there was a time of reflection and a moment of silence to also not forget our Armed Forces personnel who are in harm’s way and continuously have given the ultimate sacrifice.   There was a short time to network and coffee reception closed the event.

Respectfully

Ed Figueroa
